CEng
Environmental Engineer
Areas of expertise
Contaminated site characterization, environmental health risk assessment, hydrogeology, slopes and embankments stability, spatial data management, implementation of georeferenced soil information system.
Recent experience
From January 2014, he is associate consultant at Studio Cotecchia & Associates. Following the long tradition in geotechnical engineering consultancy started more than 50 years ago by Prof. Vincenzo Cotecchia, he is involved in a wide range of challenging design activities as site environmental remediations, slope stability and hydrogeological risk assessment. Studio Cotecchia & Associates plays a major role in the regional and national geotechnical and geological consultancy field as well as in the field of reaserch and innovation due to the strongly
connection to the local Polytechnic University of Bari as well as with a number of national and international academic groups.
Based on the expertise maturated during its graduation thesis and its Post-Lauream research collaboration at the Polytechnic University of Bari, he has developed a good knowledge in Finite Element numerical methods, mainly applied to slope stability.
During its permanence as dependent of the Accenture company, he gained an excellent knowledge in building database and business data warehouse; this expertise will be used later, during his work experience as an employee of Prof. Vincenzo Cotecchia in different design areas and research, where spatial data management and implementation of georeferenced soil information system are required too.

Previous experience
For five years (2009-2013) Mr Mezzina has been employed at Cotecchia’s office based in Bari (Italy), where he has been widely involved in hydrogeological characterization of the aquifers and development of physical-mathematical models for the interpretation of the groundwater hydrodynamic behaviour. Then over the years he has worked on several projects related to geotechnical engineering, environmental engineering and hydrogeology.
Mr. Mezzina has contributed on writing and editing a Cotecchia’s Monograph titled “The groundwater and the seawater intrusion in Apulia: from research to the emergency in the safeguard of the water re source”. The purpose of this Monograph, founded by the Infrastructure Ministry (General Directorate for Dams, Water and Electrical Infrastructures), was to present a current situation of aquifers in Apulia region.
For about two years (2008-2009) Mr. Mezzina has been employed at Accenture SpA based in Milan (Italy), where he was widely involved in business data warehouse, reporting and data flow.
Working as a consultant directly in touch with the client, he has developed a strong propensity to meet the needs of the customer, helping to achieve high performance in improving business processes.
From February to July 2008 Mr Mezzina worked with a Post-Lauream research fellowship at the Technical University of Bari in a scientific strategic project related to the Landslide Risk Assessment. During this time he remained involved in a number of research activities regarding advanced numerical analyses, geotechnical modelling and Finite Element analysis applied to slope stability.
Mr. Mezzina completed his undergraduate degree in Environmental Engineering at Polytechnic University of Bari in 2008.
